REMINISCING MY ENTREPRENUERING DAYS:   My worse fear on returning to America after living and earnings a living in west-Africa eleven (11) years as a jewelry-craftsman were to depend on someone or organization for a job.. And All praises to the Creator, it wasn't necessary.. Thanks to the wisdom of a dear friend, Dr. Margaret Burroughs who during one of her visits to Ghana, I enquired as to could I earn a living as a craftsman when I return to America?    "Kojo, no one gonna give you a job unless you've been authenticated, so your best bet is to do as you have done here (Africa) MAKE YOUR OWN JOB. which eased my mind on the matter.   1st task was to seek out Afro-centric minded Americans that supported Black Artists & their Artworks. Long story shorten;   Check out "MY SANKOFA" or "THE ARTIST'S ODYSSEY.” Or both For details    ALSO;    If only www was around 50 years ago. :-( LoL  *******

To Families Friends and Future Art-Collectors

TO MY FAMILIES AND FRIENDS.. And future ART-COLLECTORS: I’ve always desired to be an artist, the problem which was continually pointed out to me was how would I earn a living,, which took the first 32 years of my life to discover the solution. Or my Solution, which was creating custom made jewelry that people would purchase and wear as adornments while living in Africa, which was a born again experiences, and a source of survivor. A lifesaving discovery that I touched on in "MY SANKOFA". Which was really made clear to me on my return to America after living in eleven years (11 1965 to 1976) in Ghana & West-Africa, where I were tutored by African Craftsmen, after they discover my artistic skills,, and that’s not to leave out the Traders of arts & crafts. Now reflecting back on those days & years, If only we’d had the technology that available today; it would’ve been like a piece-of-cake.. But, on the other hand we might’ve not developed the skills we now process? Now in the last years of my life, I'll admit that with the exception of one year, (1950/51) they've been good and very creative, Now after 35 years of jewelry designing and lost-wax casting, I have returned to my first love, oil painting, and added a newly found one, photography. In fact, I've done everything the doubter I've encounter in life, said I couldn't do,, and wrote books (memoirs) in hope of inspiring others. See Details below: the-artist-statement.html Like an old friend once told me.. “Kojo, you better blow your own horn, cause nobody else going to do it.” Thank you much, Dr. B,, aka Dr. Margaret G. Burroughs, & may she RIP.

New Year RESOLUTION 2017

MY New Year RESOLUTION FOR 2017: It's To continue documenting my journey as an Artist & Photo-Journalist, into the plight of African Americans.. Here's some of the agonizing facts endured by the Artists to create, exhibit, and the process of marketing their works.. Its the agony of packing, traveling too exhibit-locations, parking, and if its an outdoor location, there’s the weather to be concerned about, like a sudden rainstorm could be a total wipeout.. Then there the unloading and setting up of displays, And by the way, exhibit-fee is paid in advance with no re-funds, if events is called off due to an unfavorable disposition from Mother-nature, or anything else. And if all goes well (like we all pray they will) there’s no guarantee their sales will cover their expenses, much earn a profit. But then there’s a guarantee profitable side of the events. Like Event-Planners, Entertainers (who’s paid in advance) Food Vendors, and of course maintenance personnel. And then there’s the Audiences, i.e. the Regulars, (who by the way pay a small entrance fee) and those just seeking to be entertained, the part I also enjoy, however having once being an exhibitor myself, I feel a bit guilty knowing I am not there to purchase anything other then Food, Drinks and to enjoy the entertainment.. Sure, its great to see and visit with old friends and fellow Artists, as I am sure they feel about me, but they have a Bottomline-$, and the space I occupy in front of their display should only be a minute or two, in the hope of a passing buyer who might fill it. I guess my main complain is, Why must the Artists/Craftsman’s shoulder the opening expenses? Why not select multi-million dollars cooperation & etc, to fund such events? Anyway, we now have the options of Online-marketing & Galleries. i.e. ArtSpan & etc. You are welcome to review or download “The Artist’s Odyssey” my personal journey as an Artist,, which due to popular demands, will soon be available as a coffee-table photos albums.. All COMMENTS are WELCOME. although I don't expect many, still I wish your all a HAPPY NEW YEAR in 2017. :-)
